Creating Custom Overlays for Your Photo Booth Clients: Adding a Personalized Touch to Every Event
When a client books our SnapPicture Booth for their event—whether it’s a wedding, birthday, corporate party, or baby shower—they’re not just hiring us for fun photos. They’re investing in an experience. One of the most impactful ways to elevate that experience is by offering custom photo overlays tailored to their event.
What Is a Photo Booth Overlay?
A photo booth overlay is the graphic frame that surrounds or sits on top of the photo strip or digital image captured by the booth. It typically includes personalized design elements like:
-
Event name or hashtag
-
Date of the event
-
Logos or branding (for corporate events)
-
Themed illustrations or colors
-
Fonts and icons that match the invitation or decor
Think of it as the finishing touch that turns a standard photo into a keepsake.
Why Offer Custom Overlays?
1. Personalization
Custom overlays give each photo a unique identity. Whether your client wants something romantic, whimsical, professional, or seasonal, a personalized overlay ensures the final product reflects their style and theme.
2. Branding Opportunities
For corporate events, branded overlays featuring company logos, slogans, or campaign hashtags can boost brand visibility. Every shared photo becomes a mini advertisement.
3. Memorable Keepsakes
Guests love walking away with a photo that not only captures a moment but also reminds them of where and when it happened. A custom overlay makes each printout or digital image a true memento.
The Custom Overlay Creation Process
Step 1: Understanding the Client’s Vision
During the booking process or onboarding call, We gather key details:
-
Type of event (wedding, birthday, etc.)
-
Theme and color scheme
-
Specific text (names, hashtags, dates)
-
Any logos or graphics they'd like included
Step 2: Choose the Layout
Based on the booth setup and photo format (e.g., single shot, 2x6 photo strips, 4x6 postcards, GIFs), select or design a layout that accommodates the photo spaces and graphic elements. For our SnapPicture Booth we use a 2048 x 2048 Square format which works as a great universal standard size for the type of booth that we use-which is a SALSA model ,where printing is not necessary as the photos are available for immediate download to your devices.
Step 3: Design the Overlay
Using software like Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or a dedicated photo booth overlay editor:
-
Position the text and graphics without blocking the photo area
-
Stick to high-contrast colors for readability
-
Export in the proper resolution and file format (PNG with a transparent background is standard)
Step 4: Send for Client Approval
We send a proof to the client for review. We allow a round or two of revisions if needed. Clear communication here ensures they’re thrilled with the result.
Step 5: Load It Into the Booth Software
Once approved,we upload the overlay into our photo booth software (like DSLR Booth, SnapPic, Breeze, etc.) and do a test run to ensure alignment and functionality. We perform these checks for each client for every event.
Final Thoughts
Creating custom overlays may seem like a small detail, but it’s one that adds significant value. It shows our clients that we're not offering a cookie-cutter service—we craft a personalized experience tailored just for them. It’s that kind of attention to detail that turns one-time customers into loyal fans and enthusiastic referrers of our SnapPicture Booth.
